Urgessa & Telile are a beautiful couple who married among friends and family on August 21st, 2016. With over 400 guests their wedding was a celebration full of fun and love. Both Urgessa & Telile do a lot of charity work internationally and are recognized within the community for their outstanding humanitarian work.
Ethiopian weddings are so beautiful and Telile and Urgessa's wasn't any different. There was a lot of culture and tradition incorporated into their wedding from the getting ready, to the first look, to the breaking of bread with family, to the exchange of gifts, the hour long ceremony, and the music incorporated into the reception. I was honored to have been chosen to photograph this day for them.
The morning started with arriving at the home Telile was getting ready at. She had her closest female friends and family there with her to assist in her getting ready. While Telile finished getting ready I headed over to where Urgessa was getting ready. At the home, Urgessa was surrounded by all of his closest male friends and family. They were celebrating the union of Telile and Urgessa through food, song, chants, and dancing. Such an amazing thing to witness and be able to capture for them.
After the men ate it was time to head over to meet with Telile. It is tradition that the groom to be goes and picks up his intended. He meets the important men in her life at the door and they welcome him into the family. After pleasantries, prayers, and a few words he will then get his bride to be.
A breaking of bread, prayers, and gift exchanging to the elders of the family is done after Urgessa gets Telile. They then share lunch with all of their closest friends and family before heading over to the ceremony.
The ceremony was held at St Mary's in downtown Portland. A gorgeous church with beautiful ambiance. All of the guests were heard to have had a wonderful time and thought the ceremony was lovely.
Formal portraits were then taken at the beautiful Rose Gardens. The gardens made a perfect backdrop to their portraits especially with the sun slowly setting in the background giving them that wonderful warm, golden hour, glow.
And, now for the reception. The party is about to get started. In all my years of working weddings I have to say that Telile and Urgessa's wedding reception was one of the most lively and energetic weddings. There weren't any filled seats after dinner as everyone was on the dance floor celebrating.
