The Tait Family
The Tait Family Home in Salem, Oregon
Salem, Oregon family photographer Mellissa Stanturf
Every family I've met seems to think their lives aren't share worthy. That their moments are either too mundane or not exciting enough to photograph. That simply cannot be further from the truth. The truth is- every family is uniquely different. No two families interact the same, have the same rituals, have the same hobbies, nor do they enjoy the same things. This makes them extraordinary.
The kids love doing art projects while Stephanie and Bobby work. A little bit of watercolor therapy and they were all set. The Taits are a family living in Salem, Oregon. Stephanie is a blogger, speaker, and woman living with Lyme Disease. Her husband is an amazing man with a huge heart. Aidan is a special boy with a love for legos, putting things together and seeing how they work, an analytical thinker, and has been diagnosed with autism. I love following his mom so I can cheer him on through each obstacle he overcomes, share in his frustrations when things in life frustrate him, and encourage and love on him when he may have a bad day. Jack or Jack Jack is an extrovert, lover of attention, silly, affectionate boy. Each one of them brings such a beautiful dynamic to their family.
I went to their home to photograph their every day. What a typical day in the life of a Tait looks like. Stephanie wanted something tangible that her boys could look back on that would showcase their love for one another. It was preserving their every day life as it is now and documenting it. Her boys won't be the age they are now tomorrow let alone a year from now. Capturing who they are and their personalities in these moments was important to her.
When I arrived to their home before I could even ring the doorbell Jack opened the door and said with a big toothy grin, "Hi! Come in!"
I knew we were going to have fun the minute I stepped inside. We'd play legos, cook, paint, read books, and Jack would even make me my own "Essspresso" with his Expresso maker.
After legos we went into the kitchen so the boys could help their momma make lunch. One of their favorites was on the menu for the day- a soup with veggies and rice. It's a meal that is approved for Stephanie's Lyme diet
Midway through Aidan wanted to go back to playing legos. So Jack helped finish up.
Some family time reading a lego book on the couch is a favorite past time.
As you can see no family is boring. Even in the simple every day activities love can be seen. I would love to capture that love for you and your family.
