These are a few of my favorite things…
You were singing along, weren’t you? No raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens, but recently I was contacted by a blog looking for a Salem, Oregon wedding photographer to give them some insight on the current and favorite top trends in weddings.
As a photographer, I do see a lot of interesting ideas, and spins on traditional decor, as well as personalization, and really amazing and creative ways that couples use to express themselves on their special day.
So- to start it all off:
When asked about bridesmaid dresses- I knew it was an easy answer for me. I just love the festive, glamorous look of sparkly, and glittery gowns. Glitter and sparkle can beautifully accent your bridal party. And, what better way to help you, the bride, shine then by having your girls on your side dressed in sparkles helping a viewer's eye go straight to you. Nothing over the top and gaudy of course, but sparkle, ladies!

I’ve noticed a trend in menswear, and I have to say- I approve! The traditional stark black tux choices have been replaced with a more sedated tone of grays and navy colored formal wear. With themed weddings becoming all the rage, these tuxedo choices help set the tone for a perfectly dressed groomsman brigade.
As for the bride? I’m a sucker for non-traditional gowns. I just love seeing a bride glow in a muted blush colored gown, or non traditional cuts. Lace on wedding gowns really set the tone for a lavish and elegant look. Keeping with the elegant theme, I believe that sleeves really add to the charm, whether they are long or ¾ length.

And, this gorgeous dress from Sophia Tolli. A line carried by Merrime Bridal in Albany, Oregon.
As I mentioned above- Themed weddings are big deals, these days! I’ve seen themed weddings planned around just about everything. Gatsby inspired, weddings with a nod to favorite Disney themes such as Beauty and the Beast, movie inspired weddings with creative touches toward movies such as The Princess Bride, Alice in Wonderland and even Game of Thrones.
While asked about the details, I of course had to mention that it’s ALL in the details. Hair Pieces, personalized cuff links, table décor, and ceremony pieces are all ways that a bride can add her own unique touch to the festivities, and make it an event to remember. The details really help tie in the personalities of the couples to their wedding.
Flowers- Gone are the days of bouquets bigger than the bride! Current trends are moving more towards natural and simplistic bouquets. More greenery and smaller accents of floral, the bouquet adds to the brides overall charm and beauty and without distracting from it.
Food- Everyone loves choices, and a smart bride knows that when it comes to catering, buffet style is the way to go. More and more brides are turning to a still elegant, buffet style catering arrangement to ensure that all wedding guests are pleased and well fed.
Venues- There is something quaint about the rustic choices of wedding venues, but I just can’t help it- I really adore the modern and contemporary venues. I guess it just shows that I believe your wedding is a big, amazing deal and as such, it should be treated as the spectacular event that it is.
